# Keeping corn snakes: profile and care

## The classic beginner's snake – size, climate and feeding

### At a glance

- **Adult size:** around 120–150 cm
- **Weight:** 400–700 g as an adult (8–15 g as a hatchling)
- **Origin:** North America
- **Suitable for beginners:** yes – also popular with experienced keepers

### The right vivarium

At least 120 x 60 x 60 cm with hides, climbing opportunities and good ventilation.

### Temperature, lighting & climate

- Daytime 24–28 °C
- Night-time 20–22 °C
- A gentle heat source and subtle lighting work best

### Feeding

Small rodents as frozen-thawed food: hatchlings often weekly, adults every 10–14 days.

### Temperament & handling

Peaceful and unflappable – the classic beginner's snake.
