# Keeping leopard geckos: profile and care

## Perfect for beginners – size, climate and feeding

### At a glance

- **Adult size:** 20–25 cm on average (females often smaller)
- **Weight:** 45–90 g as an adult
- **Suitable for beginners:** yes – one of the most popular reptiles for newcomers
- **Type:** desert vivarium, ground-dwelling

### The right vivarium

At least 90 x 45 x 45 cm, wide rather than tall, with hides, climbing branches or rocks and a temperature gradient.

### Temperature, lighting & climate

- Warmest basking area around 35–40 °C; the coolest spot should not fall below 22 °C during the day
- Night-time around 20–23 °C
- Humidity around 30–40 %
- UVB is not essential, but can support the natural day-night rhythm

### Feeding

Insectivorous: crickets, locusts and mealworms, sized to suit the animal. Dust livefood regularly with calcium and vitamins.

### Temperament & handling

Friendly, calm and easy to care for – an ideal introduction to keeping lizards.
