Lamp buzzing or whining – is that normal?

Screwing it in tightly usually helps – some noise is normal

Where the noise comes from

Whining noises are caused by high-frequency vibration when a component is not sitting completely tight. UV metal halide lamps are high-pressure discharge lamps, and their ballasts draw a lot of power, especially at start-up.

Always unplug the unit from the mains before doing anything! Do not carry out electrical installation work yourself – that is a job for qualified professionals.

What you can do

  1. Switch the system off and let it cool down.
  2. Screw the bulb back in firmly, all the way to the stop (without forcing it) – this alone is often enough.
  3. Check that the plug connection, reflector and retaining ring on the holder are all properly seated.

A certain amount of background noise is normal with this type of lamp and can never be eliminated entirely. During the first few days of use it usually reduces noticeably.

If that does not help, just get in touch – we are happy to advise you by phone as well.
