Keeping and feeding livefood

Crickets, locusts and more – choosing and keeping them

Which livefood for which animal?

  • Crickets: high in protein, ideal for smaller reptiles
  • Desert locusts: nutrient-rich, ideal for larger reptiles
  • Morio worms: high in energy, good for more active species
  • Mealworms: particularly suited to smaller lizards and amphibians

Keeping your livefood in good condition

  • Store them in well-ventilated tubs – this keeps survival rates high.
  • Gut-load them with a suitable feed to improve their nutritional value.
  • Crickets need higher humidity, while desert locusts prefer dry conditions.
  • Remove dead insects and clean the containers regularly.

Dust your livefood with calcium and vitamins before feeding – particularly important for lizards, to prevent deficiencies.

With the right care, livefood will survive for several weeks. In colder months we adapt the way we ship them to keep the insects in good condition.
