My animal is not passing droppings – should I worry?

Usually nothing to worry about – especially before a shed

In the vast majority of cases: no

Reptiles pass droppings when they need to. In around 98 % of cases where keepers suspect a blockage, everything is perfectly fine.

Before a shed, for example, many animals hold on for a while – that is entirely normal.

This assessment comes from over 25 years of experience with around 10,000 royal pythons, where it never turned out to be a real problem. It is not a substitute for a veterinary examination.

If your animal also seems lethargic, is visibly losing weight or the situation persists over a longer period, please see a reptile-experienced vet.
